Years 5 and 6 had a really interesting day today. All of their hard work at home with their last homework really paid off and they came equipped with a huge amount of research about an African nation. They worked hard to work out the language and organisational features of a non chronological report, and then used their research to write their own. They were able to choose the format of this report - some chose a brochure and others chose a poster. The finished reports were very impressive and something the children were very proud of. Many of the children took them home to finish them as they were so pleased with what they had written.
The children also had a go at African drumming. They made sure they listened really carefully in order to ensure they copied the calls and changed the tone of their drumming when needed. They worked well as a class to create a class performance of one of the rhythms they had learned.
The children also learned a bit of Swahili at the end of the day. They learned that Swahili is a language spoken in the coastal regions of the east of Africa. Henry and Eve performed a short conversation to the rest of the school in the assembly at the end of the day - they said hello, asked what is your name, gave their name and said goodbye.
