Year 6 homework expectations include regular reading with an adult. Please find attached a list of prompts which are helpful to assess your child's understanding of the text that you are reading together.
Shared reading could involve taking turns in reading the book, so that in addition to reading practice, your child is able to hear an adult model good reading. They will hear your pronunciation and expression, and will be able take in the language techniques authors have used (for example to create mood, suspense, etc). In time, these techniques will emerge in children's own independent writing - very rewarding!
Please also find attached recommended reading lists, including Year 5, Year 6 and young adult texts.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you are unsure how to support your child in reading at home.
