I hope that you are having a lovely break, and looking forward to your final year at Great Horwood. It is going to be an exciting time for the class as we work hard to prepare for secondary school. If parents were unable to attend the 'Meet the teachers' session last term, please take a minute to look through this PowerPoint, which gives key dates and expectations for Year 6. I look forward to seeing you all in your new 'Hawthorn' room! Mrs Wright
A huge thank you to everyone for my amazing presents and vouchers. You have been far too generous and I am very, very grateful! Thank you, too, for the lovely cards and notes from pupils and parents. I was very touched to read your words and I will keep them forever.
I have adored teaching you all and I look forward to hearing all about your new adventures in Year 7. Good luck to everyone. Mrs Wright Another great day - although the children have only just settled - so lots of tired children tomorrow evening!
A couple of photos before I head to my bed! I hope you received the text last night from two of the pupils - they enjoyed trying to sum up the day in a text message!
Yesterday we persevered through the rain and everyone met their challenge on the trapeze. I shall let the children explain what they had to do! Mrs Stone and I managed to do it too! Later the children took part in a challenge circuit where they worked incredibly well as a team. I even raced one of the children, I shall let him or her let you know who won! After lunch we all faced the vertical challenge. This was a rope ladder, followed by three tyres, followed by a climbing wall and finishing with a cargo net! It was great to see the children face such a scary activity. The children then learnt how to really trust their partners by taking part in a sensory trail. Today we woke up to glorious sunshine after two days of rain. This morning was zip wire and then quad biking. Many of the children are adding a quad bike to their Christmas list! The zip wire proved a challenge to some of the children but we were really proud as everyone gave it a go. Mrs Stone left us at lunch time, and Mrs Temple joined us. This afternoon we learnt how to survive in the English woodland with just a tarpaulin, a long piece of string and a short piece of string. We also went canoeing and turned into zombies - again - ask the children on Friday!! Tonight the children were ready for bed and were pleased with the letter and Malteasers from Mrs Wright. The children are really excited about all the activities tomorrow - lets hope that the sun shines! Dear Parents
I am looking for photos of the children for our leavers' assembly. I would like to have a baby photo of each child, and also past photos of the children with their friends, for example birthday parties, past class photos, etc. If you have any photos you feel may be suitable please either email them to school or send in a hard copy which I will scan and return to you. Many thanks! Mrs Wright
What an amazing day!
The children have been exemplary in their behaviour today and have thoroughly enjoyed all of the challenges which they have faced. The first one was getting their bags up two flights of stairs. The children thought that the accommodation was like a five star hotel and so they have made themselves at home. We have had wet weather, but that just encouraged them to get more wet. This afternoon's activity was raft building. Everyone got involved and ended up building a raft.... of sorts.... photos to follow. The activity resulted in a superb rendition of heads, shoulders, knees and toes before heading back to the showers to warm up. After a dinner of Cumberland Sausage, Cod or veggie lattice the children hunted for pirate treasure and then headed to bed!! It is now 10pm and the majority are settled...... we hope!
I hope that you are looking forward to visiting the Living rainforest.
Children are to wear full school uniform and a coat. It will be very hot inside the glasshouses so they will be able to take off coats and jumpers. If it is dry we will be eating outside, so coats will be needed. Please bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink, as the glasshouses are hot and humid. You may also bring a notebook and pen, and a book to read on the journey if you wish. I will be taking photos throughout the visit. You may bring a camera if you wish, but remember that it is your responsibility. Pupils must not take pictures during the tour but will be given time during free time in the glasshouses to take pictures. All children are expected to demonstrate full respect to plants, animals, staff and to any other visitors during the visit. Remember that the rainforest may contain poisonous or defensive plants and free roaming birds and other wildlife. Children are not allowed to touch the plants and animals. |
