Please complete the 'nouns' worksheet:
Maths:
Our recent assessments have highlighted that the class still experiences difficulties solving multi-step problems. For example, in a recent test most children answered only half the question rather than following both steps required.
I have provided copies of word problems at differing levels and I would like children to work with an adult at home to practice these questions.
The school approaches word problems using RUCSAC: Read, Underline (key information), Choose (the operation/s needed), Solve, Answer (the question) and Check (e.g. against estimates or using inverse).
Each child has a set of questions in a level that suits their ability (with adult support) and most children have a set of questions in a higher level that they can move on to. All level questions are attached.
I have requested that completed papers are returned after half term, but I would urge parents to 'pace' the questions over the next 2 weeks or so, rather than trying to cram them into one day! Allow children to answer a couple of problems and then check that they have followed the correct procedure.
